Psychedelia, color and movement — the animations for Calcutta's Relax Tour, from the arenas of 2023 to the summer edition of 2024.

The Relax Tour marked the return to the stage of the singer-songwriter from Latina who, between winter 2023 in the arenas and summer 2024, brought the album Relax to life on stage along with the best-loved songs of his repertoire.

Show design and visual direction are by Galattico, a multidisciplinary studio specializing in visual experiences for events, concerts, exhibitions and installations, with Filippo Rossi as creative director and in collaboration with Calcutta himself.

For this tour, produced by Live Nation Italia for DNA concerti, I was part of the motion design team, working on the visuals for four songs.

In “Cosa mi manchi a fare” bands and serpentine shapes of color stretch, repeat and drip across the screens, covering and revealing the live images of the concert in a continuous play of overlays.
In “Ghiaccioli” shapes and fields of color build abstract spaces and draw architectures that transform, pulsing in time with the music.
With “Del verde” the movement becomes wind: a particle system lifts a multitude of banknotes that slowly, throughout the song, grow in number and rise higher and higher until they flood the screens.
For “SSD” I worked on the characters' rigs, their animations and the morphs through which human figures turn into bizarre chimeras. A collaborative piece, illustrated by Selene Sanua and put together by Silvio Mancini, that grows in complexity and rhythm until it erupts into a frenzied visionary delirium.

For the summer edition the show was reworked with updated content and new visuals. With the instrumental outro of “Ghiaccioli” added to the setlist came the most hypnotic visual: a frog jumping in time with the music through ever-changing environments, among surreal landscapes, lo-fi scenes and psychedelic visions, in an alternation between believable dimensions and imaginary worlds.

With more than 20 dates in all, the Relax Tour turned the stage into a meeting place between music and visual imagery, where pop aesthetics and the creativity of the visuals helped build a collective celebration in which the images amplify the emotion of the songs without ever overpowering it.
